  • Principal Scientist, Center for Process Analytical Control (CPAC) in Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and Affiliate Professor in Chemical Engineering at University of Washington
  • Ph.D. Organic Medicinal Chemistry, University of Iowa 1967; MS Biochemistry, University of Iowa 1964; BA Chemistry/Math/Economics, St. Olaf College, Minnesota 1962
  • 1967-1995 The Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Michigan

Conducted Process Research and Engineering studies in Pharmaceuticals, Agricultural, and Specialty Organic product areas to develop and / or improve existing processes at Dow Chemical. Introduced Process Analytical Technology into industrial processes.

Effectively works across functional (research, manufacturing, and business), external (government, university, and other industry), and geographic (North America, Europe, Pacific, and Latin America) boundaries by creating networks partnering strategies with an emphasis on the use of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) for achieving Quality by Design (QbD).

Recognized expert in the development of technology for PAT, incorporating PAT tools for supporting the steps required to achieve QbD - by determining critical quality parameters and subsequent process design space for the development of process control systems. Also, significant experience in effective technology transfer, resulting in moving laboratory developments into commercialization.

Developed strong interactive ties with industry, universities, research institutes, national laboratories, and national agencies.
