CPAC has developed a legacy for creating forums for the presentation and discussion of advances in measurement technology for real-time measurement and advanced data handling techniques.
There has been increasing industrial interest in the development and application of new technology tools for enhancing global industry related initiatives such as: Quality by Design (QbD), Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Process Intensification, Green Chemistry, etc.
One of the key developments is in the area of NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). The chemical information obtained from these measurement technologies contributes to developing more effective process control strategies – a goal that many companies are trying to achieve.
A tutorial style workshop was held at the Spring CPAC meeting on Monday May 7th, 2012 featuring the advances in NMR for process optimization and control. The workshop addressed the status of recent developments and presented relevant case studies on the use of this technology. The discussion focused on the process-readiness of these developments. It was apparent that the NMR and MRI fields can be adapted to developmental and production needs for this type of measurement. Of particular note was the fact that the participating presenters, representing the vendors, gathered to discuss the questions being asked and to provide solutions to the participants as to how to approach implementing this technology.
